The gift of journaling

Do you love to write? This is an online retreat day to explore the gift of journaling. Whether this is something you already do, or would like to give it a try, we hope you will find the inspiration you need on this day. Journaling enables us to review and notice patterns in our prayer that may help us to see how our relationship with God may deepen over time.

Keeping a reflective journal may be a prayerful practice that helps track experiences and interactions with God over time. It is not a diary of daily events or tasks but focuses on moments that move or stir you emotionally or spiritually.A journal allows you to explore these experiences in detail, recognizing God's presence and meaning in them.

Keeping a journal is really helpful when preparing to speak about our prayer in ongoing spiritual accompaniment or on a retreat. It helps us to make the most of the time we have when someone is generous in listening to the fruits of our prayer.

How it works

You can find your own quiet space to write and use your own journal. There will be suggestions for prayer and opportunities to share your prayer.

The day will consist of:

· Gathering online to share our experience of journaling.

· An input from Sarah to set the scene and guide you in prayer.

· Time off screen to review the prayer and to write freely.

· Gathering online to share the fruit of your prayer in the group.

· Considering different ways we might journal – using poetry, art, photos, etc.

Sarah Young is a spiritual director and retreat giver who loves to write!

Suggested Donation

The requested donation for this event is £40. This is what the Jesuit Institute and Pray As You Go need to cover our costs and to support our work of making Ignatian spirituality available to as many people as possible. However, if you are unable to donate this amount for any reason, please offer what you can (or even nothing at all!). All are most welcome to attend.
